Why The "A" Word Explains The Internet

Hmmm. That certainly is DIFFERENT from the way the rest of the business world works.

Then, last week, somebody(s) shut down several of corporate America's biggest e-commerce sites. Experts said it was a very easy prank that even a kid could have done. The FBI admitted it would be an extremely tough case to solve and it would be difficult to keep the prank from happening again.

What's going on here? Why is the Internet world so COMPLETELY different from the regular business world of Walmart's, GM's, and 7-11's?

While traditional business operates in a system of Market Capitalism, the Internet works on a very different basis. You get ahead in Market Capitalism when you can dominate an industry, driving out competitors and keeping a bigger part of the pie for yourself.

The Internet won't let you do this, or at least makes you work extremely hard to create anything resembling a monopoly.

Many experts will quietly tell you the Net is a classic example of a social structure called Anarchism. Think of the Old West. Everyone started off on a level playing field and you couldn't get ahead unless you helped others in your community. There wasn't much law. People in the community worked together to enforce their common values. That's Anarchism.

Try thinking of the Net in those terms. As corporations stay up late attempting to force the Net into their traditional business models, you can prosper by knowing they are probably barking up the wrong tree.
