Yes,
I know it’s a real estate bonanza! Interest
rates are low and buyers are coming out of the woodwork to do business with you.
Yes, I know you’re working 18 hours days more often than you’d care
to think about. And
you know what else I know? You
can’t keep it up indefinitely! It
is so easy to just keep on keepin’ on. Make hay while the sun shines and all
that other trite stuff that is business-wise and personally not so wise! You’re
taking care of all your customers, clients and referral resources. Who’s
taking care of you? It’s time to
think about yourself and regain some balance—even
in the midst of a sales boom! Some
ideas for guidelines to institute now, so that you’ll be healthy, wealthy and
wise later. (As opposed to some of our friends who might come out of this boom
wealthy, weary and worn!) 1.
Take 24 hours off —midnight
to midnight—
each and every week. No business
phone calls, no business files, no business thoughts! Realtors®
—
low to mid-producing Realtors® —
all too often make themselves entirely too available.
They plaster their home phone and their cell phone and their pager
numbers all over everything and wonder why they get no rest!
You can’t live like that long term! Do
what the high-producing pro’s do: Spend
time with family, friends, read a book, see a movie, take a walk, take a long,
hot uninterrupted shower! Do
something that will recharge and refresh you so that when you go back, all of
you will be fully present and you will be more efficient and far more effective. 2.
Choose the clients you do business with. In
some markets, you really can’t afford that luxury, but you can now! Work only
with people that are pleasant to work with.
It will be easier on you and easier on them! If
these aren’t people that you’d even consider having lunch with, why would
you work with them? Refer them to
someone who’ll love them and spend your time with people who’ll love you! 3.
Keep it all in perspective. While
it is true that the work you do is very important, no one will actually die if
you mess up occasionally, so lighten up and ease the mental burden you carry.
The best service you have to offer your clients is a mentally healthy,
physically fit person who has some perspective about the process and can give
sound advice. It
all starts with you! Lou Tice,
business sage, says “you never treat others any better than you treat
yourself!” So take care of
yourself! Your clients deserve it! |
