Before you start the hiring process make sure you complete the following three steps.  These three steps are an essential part of the process of finding the perfect assistant.  First, define the characteristics you are looking for in an assistant.  Second, outline the assistant's job responsibilities. Third, evaluate the applicants based on their ability, natural characteristics, and behavior.  The assistant's natural behavior needs to mirror the skills needed for the particular job.  And last, create a compensation program.

After years of studying assistants and team dynamics, I am able to make the following analysis about what behavioral characteristic you should look for in each member of your team.  I also used a tool called The Language of DISC.  This is a behavioral insight tool developed by Dr. William Marston.  DISC is the universal language for "how we act" or our behavior in particular situations.  Our behavior is truly an integral part of our being or who we are.  This test is not used to determine good or bad, right or wrong.  It is used to look our standard behavioral pattern.  Then understand how we interact in the work and home environment.

DISC is broken into four parts, dominance, influencing, steadiness, and compliance.  An assistant will be in DISC terms steady and compliant.  Here are a few behavioral characteristics you should look for:

·  Patient

·  Consistent

·  Steady

·  Stable

·  Systematic

·  Careful

·  Accurate

·  Diplomatic

·  Balanced Judgment
