____ Now that the weather is getting cooler, take the time to declutter your garage. Sort tools, sporting equipment, lawn supplies, gardening tools, car-care products and so on, getting rid of anything you no longer need. Call your city sanitation department to find out how to get rid of old paint, pesticides and other chemicals. Sweep and clean the floor, and make room to put the car inside if your garage has been too stuffed to do so this past summer. Do it in one weekend, or break up the job into the 4 available Saturdays in September--a few hours at a time. Get the whole family involved.

____ Celebrate the back-to-school season by writing a letter to a favorite teacher, visiting your old school grounds, calling an old school mate to chat, or simply reading a classic you once read years ago, like Moby Dick, Anna Karina or The Great Gatsby.

____ Take any clothing that needs by be dry cleaned to your local dry cleaner. Mend any clothing that needs repair, such as a missing button or a hem that has come loose.

____ Meet with your insurance agent to review your health, auto, home or renters, and life insurance policies to be sure everything is up-to-date.

____ Review your magazine subscriptions to determine those you're reading, and those that are not even being opened. When your renewal notices come in, only renew those you truly enjoy. Note that most magazine company's send renewal notices far in advance. Usually there's a date on the address label of your magazine that says when your subscription really runs out.

____ Clear off all surfaces. No clutter on the dining room table, kitchen table, coffee table, end tables, dresser top, etc. Toss, donate, sell, or put the items back where they belong.

____ Empty your computer's Recycle Bin if you haven't done so in awhile.

____ Buy your holiday cards now, especially if you plan to get them personalized. Start writing out a few cards a day, so you're done by Thanksgiving--in time to mail them early this year.

____ The first day of Autumn is September 22nd. Kick off the season by shopping for a new fall jacket, starting a new fall scrapbook, going for a walk in your town to enjoy the first fall colors, planning your kid's Halloween costumes or doing some fall planting in your yard.
