No Magic Formulas

I confess.  I fell for it.  I have been searching for a magic formula lately.  And last night I finally remembered - there are no magic formulas - for anything!

There is no silver bullet.

There is no land of Oz.

There is no powerful potion.

There is no all-wise, all-knowing person who will dispense just the truth you need to know - not even the proverbial genie-in-a-bottle.

Yet we continue to look for it.  And others continue to sell it to us.

Just look at half - or 95% - of the marketing materials out there.

They are designed to sell you the secrets.  Well, there are no secrets.

There is just old-fashioned wisdom available to anyone.

Want to get rich?  Lose weight?  Be successful?  Have a great relationship?  Build a business?  Sell more?  It all comes down to the basics.

Work hard

Be diligent

Help others

Show discipline

Have integrity

Don't give up

Manage your time

Strive for excellence

Make the tough choices

You know: The Basics.

My encouragement to you this week is to ask yourself what magic formula you have been looking for and in what area of your life. Then quit looking.

Get back to the basics.  Sit down and figure out how the above list will bring about the changes you are looking for.  Then plan it and work the plan.

If you work a plan filled with the basics, you WILL achieve your dreams. That is the only sure way. The sooner you get to the basics the sooner you will achieve your goal.

If you don't follow the basics, you will be ever-looking for the genie in the bottle, or the "secret," or the magic formula.

And it doesn't exist.
