IC Tech’s LightMouse™ is a presenter’s tool for remote control of a PC and its projected image.  What makes this remote tool unique is that LightMouse™ is software-based.  IC Tech’s innovative software utilizes a PC camera and common laser pointer to provide you with intuitive remote control of a PowerPoint presentation, an Internet browser, or anything else you care to project, on any surface.  The software runs in the background, meaning once it is launched, it minimizes to the taskbar and you may run any program in the normal manner.

How does it work?  LightMouse™ processes the data from the camera, determines the position of the laser pointer spot on the projected display, positions the mouse pointer at the corresponding screen position, and “clicks” the mouse when a programmable pre-determined laser pointer event occurs.  Loosely translated, the user simply points the laser pointer and the mouse follows the spot; the user holds the spot in place and the mouse registers a click.  Activation of clicking, double-clicking, and the amount of time needed to hold the pointer in one area for a click are all customizable within the software’s preference settings.

Once the camera is placed and the software is launched and calibrated, there is no need for you to interact with the PC.  Unlike other remotes, there is no proprietary remote cluttered with buttons and no sensor to target—there is simply interaction with the projected image. This provides a much more intuitive experience than prior presentation remotes in addition to providing greater flexibility.  LightMouse™ utilizes no unique hardware, an over-the-counter camera, laser pointer, and projector are all that’s needed in addition to the PC running the software.

Because presenters are often traveling and giving their presentations in numerous different locales, IC Tech made certain to develop LightMouse™ for flexibility in a variety of settings.  Even though the PC camera and projector are in close proximity to one another and the screen, this does not have to be the case.  LightMouse™ also works well in settings with a ceiling-mounted projector where the camera is necessarily distant from the projector, or in settings where the projector is much farther from the screen.  The camera needn’t be near the screen or projector; it simply must be able to capture the entire projected image.  Also, since you are utilizing the power of a laser pointer, the software may be operated from a considerable distance; you may choose to operate a presentation from either the front or back of the boardroom, classroom, or lecture hall.

Since presenters are as unique and diverse as their presentations, LightMouse™ affords you the freedom to alter the settings according to your specific presentation preferences.  No matter what type of PowerPoint screens you’ve designed, LightMouse™ allows you to direct them in the manner you intended.  Some LightMouse™ users wish to configure every screen to advance on any click, while some prefer to use buttons like those found in Internet browsers as the only means to navigate through screens.  Either way, such settings (included with PowerPoint) are completely compatible with LightMouse™.  Some LightMouse™ users even prefer to operate their presentations with an LED pointer rather than a laser pointer, utilizing a “touch screen” effect. The software will accept either light source during operation.

IC Tech is committed to an evolving software model and prefers to continually improve upon its own design rather than rest on its laurels.  The control box was recently revamped for LightMouse™ 3.0 with easy-to-use buttons and more intuitive design.  The end result is a Windows-style control box of menu options allowing complete user control.  Whether adjusting the camera’s brightness settings or the mouse’s clicking functions, it all can be done from within the software’s control box.  With LightMouse™ 3.1 slated for a Q3 2001 release, even more innovation is on the horizon.  And current LightMouse™ owners needn’t worry about having to purchase the upgraded software to take advantages of the features; IC Tech has a company policy that entitles its customers who register their software to free upgrades for a full year after purchase.  Further product details, online ordering, free downloads of PowerPoint templates, and much more can be found at www.lightmouse.com.
