What ever happened to good news? Why is it we pay more attention to misery than miracles? I don’t know about you but I don’t lose any sleep over Paris Hilton’s latest demise while she schleps her handbag-puppy around to never ending parties and ends up doing the jail house rock. Big Woo.
Last month I spoke to an association of builders and contractors in Freeport, Texas. (Funniest directions I’d ever read - take a left at the large shrimp boat??? Alrighty then.) A week before the meeting I interviewed one of the audience members to help customize my program “Tune in to Change!” Larry was a Big Cheese at Dow Chemical and they had gone through a merger with Union Carbide several years prior so I asked him to send me a couple of positives resulting from the subsequent changes he had seen since then. Instead he emailed me two entire pages listing benefits for everyone concerned - and not just the company. They included things like new skills for workers that stayed on at Dow, new promotions, more pay raises, new businesses started with people that took the package and more contracts for local businesses as a result of more outsourcing by Dow. That sounds like a whole lot of cha-ching! for a whole lot of people! Funny how Fox News doesn’t seem to broadcast any of that…I guess we’re supposed to place more importance on which celebrity sneezed at the wrong time.
The point is, there is ALWAYS a positive spin to Change if we simply look for it. Just ask Paris. After all, she’s the expert.
