Consulting to a variety of industries has one overwhelming benefit: you dont get stuck in only one way of looking at or solving problems. While each industry we work with may have its own unique characteristics, there are certain common threads that have all of their quilts looking very similar. In particular, we find that the vehicles that tend to drive an organization are generally high energy, self starting, goal-oriented, ego-filled individuals who have a want and a will to go beyond the norm. The benefits to the organization capable of attracting this profile are huge. Uniting the combined efforts of these individuals into a pre-planned, focused mission becomes a coaching task. What distinguishes on quilt from another can be summed up in one statement: the organization which seeks out the smartest and best of tomorrows participants today, is headed for the winners circle. Here is a question that might help lead you to a BFO (brilliant flash of the obvious). Are the people most responsible for my companys revenue stream older that me, the same age as me, or younger than me? If they are your age or older, theres a good chance that you are in a marketing niche (by choice), or youre in the second half of a game that you are going to lose. Real Estate as an industry used to provide a wonderful opportunity to be an individual, be connected to a more glamorous than normal profession and allow for great financial gains. The profile of those most successful in real estate can be found in the second paragraph of this article. What the real estate industry has today that it didnt a few years ago is: a different kind of Competition. If its your intention to thrive today and into the future, quit trying to replicate or out-do what the brokerage down the street or even across the state is doing. Instead, seek out the industries locally who are attracting the people with the profile you want and recognize them as your true competition. Three common threads found in the recruiters who are currently working for the true competition can best be described as a belief that: 1.) there is no right or perfect time to recruit, (in fact there efforts are constant, every encounter is seen as an opportunity). 2.) the recruiter asks questions that allow him a chance to make whatever his organization is, does and has fulfill the potential recruits wants and needs. 3.) the recruiter is relentless in his follow-up. This new competition opens a window into a much more exciting world. A world where, no matter how local a physical environment may seem, frequent contact in a global environment is at hand. The participants in tomorrows winners circle want to see themselves connected to a bigger, more exciting, more intellectually stimulating set of challenges. Then a believable mission with above average rewards becomes the glue which holds it all together. Technology, now makes possible nearly everything you need to move past your old competition. The human quotient (knowing and then responding to the most appropriate profile) is the key to beating out your true competition. So, where will you fish today and what bait will you use? |
