For twenty-plus years, psychologist Dr. Bev Smallwood has accomplished her personal mission of bringing out the best in people and her two-fold business mission: 1) building "Magnetic Workplaces" ® that attract and keep the best people and 2) helping individuals create meaningful lives. Dr. Bev?s Credentials and Skills

All of these experiences along with Bev's professional training have given her a unique set of insights and skills that she will use to enable your organization to accomplish its goals.

  • Beverly received her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology in 1981. She has also received post-doctoral training in such areas as professional speaking, team and group dynamics, total quality management, customer service and evaluation, creative training, organizational change, personnel law, conflict resolution, social styles, forensic evaluation procedures, and mediation. She is a Licensee and Certified Facilitator for Og Mandino Success Training, and she is certified as a SYMLOG consultant. Her advanced knowledge of human behavior is a major plus when she's working with organizations on complex "people issues."
  • Bev has worked with numerous hospitals; long-term care facilities; managed care companies; medical practices; Fortune 500 companies; manufacturing companies; insurance companies; city, county, and state governments; and professional associations. Internationally, Beverly's programs have impacted leaders in national governments, corporations, and religious organizations. Her clients have included such organizations as: Pratt & Whitney; New York Life Insurance; General Dynamics; the Government of South Africa; Computer Science Corporation; Beverly Enterprises; Rush Health Systems; Arthur Andersen; Hibernia National Bank; Insulin Infusion; Olin Chemical Corporation; Mid-South Utility Company; Hercules, Inc.; Walbar; and Waterford III Nuclear Power Plant.   • From her work in such countries as South Africa, Kenya, Botswana, Namibia, Singapore, and Indonesia, she has gained a deep appreciation for both the differences of culture and the experiences that humans everywhere have in common.
  • As a licensed psychologist for the past twenty years, Beverly has counseled with literally thousands of individuals, couples, and families in all the struggles of life. These experiences give her a unique understanding of how people think, feel, and behave. She brings these insights to the platform, sharing with her audiences real, practical strategies for successful living, rather than pumped-up platitudes.
  • Before becoming a psychologist and professional speaker, Bev was a teacher. She has also taught university graduate students in business and psychology. As an educator, she developed a keen sense of how to help others quickly grasp and retain information, principles, and skills. Her seminars fully honor the principles of adult learning.
  • Beverly's own experiences as C.E.O. of Leading Resources, Inc., which she founded in 1984, and as a manager in other organizations greatly enhances her ability to relate personally to the everyday realities of leadership. Her extensive work with leaders in medical, corporate, professional, and religious settings has rounded out her personal experiences and her clinical training so that she has a keen understanding of what works and what doesn't in helping people learn, grow, and contribute.

Bev has extensive media experience. She has been host of the radio talk show, Dr. Bev's Working Smart. She has been a regular talk show guest on TV and radio since the early 80s, and has been a business columnist and featured expert in the print media. For example, she has been featured on CNN-FN, MSNBC, the Maury Povich Show, Fox on Family, The Mitch Albom Show, CBS Radio, the nationally-syndicated Joey Reynolds Show, USA Network, and TalkAmerica. In the print media, Bev's been featured in the New York Times, Chicago Tribune, Cincinnati Enquirer, Associated Press, and Reuters.

Professional Activities and Honors

Beverly is an active member of the National Speakers Association. In that organization, she is past chair of the Ethics Committee. Beverly is also a member of Master Speakers International.

In addition, Bev is active in her psychological professional associations. She is a member of the American Psychological Association and is currently Secretary-Treasurer of the Mississippi Psychological Association. In 1999, Beverly was named "Fellow" by the Mississippi Psychological Association, in recognition of "outstanding, unusual, and sustained contributions to Psychology in the State of Mississippi."

Beverly was recognized in her home state as one of Mississippi's 50 Leading Businesswomen for the year 2000. She received this award from the Mississippi Business Journal.
