Balance Is Over-Rated

Today's buzz is often about balance and then "they" ask you if you are a passionate professional, a perfect parent, a super spouse, a lovable lover, a fitness freak, a superb socialite and a supercalifragalisticexpialidocious spiritual being.

WHEW!  Just makes me tired reading the list!

Balance is a big-picture concept. It cannot be on the daily to-do list. And yet, we are often made to feel inadequate if we aren't seven for seven. Now, isn't that silly?

There are reasons and seasons for everything.

When you have small children, parenting kinda jumps to the forefront and most of your energy goes there.

There are times in your professional life when nothing else matters and THAT gets your primary attention.

Some of you are single, and are seeking a primary and long-term relationship or marriage, and we all know that THAT takes a lot of time, focus and energy. And the same can be said for each area of your life.

My suggestion:  Be easier on yourself.

Pick two areas NOW that need your primary focus and energy and give them most of your attention for a while.  When you have those two areas humming, then add or substitute another.

NO ONE can be excellent at everything all at one time.  That doesn't mean that you cannot be good, functional and participate in all areas all the time.

It does mean that there are only 24 hours in a day. (I've had some that seemed a LOT longer, though. Haven't you?) Obviously you'll have to prioritize your days and maybe your YEARS but eventually you'll get it all in ...because we're all living longer!

When you get overwhelmed, take a nap.  I bet the world will still be here when you wake up! And you'll be ready for it!
